Psychosocial Counselling

Psychosocial counselling is often referred to as the human face of fertility treatment in contradistinction to IVF and ICSI which are based and driven largely by complex medical processes and sophisticated technology.

Counselling in the context of fertility care at Paragon Fertility Centre has been defined as an interpersonal process of support, advice and guidance to bring about change that enables the woman/couple to live a more satisfying and resourceful way.

Counselling aims to explore, understand, and resolve emotional, social and interpersonal issues arising from infertility, as well as stress associated with fertility treatment or procedures; and to identify ways of coping with the problems more effectively.

PFC recommends psychosocial care and counselling because it provides the following benefits:

  • Provide you with emotional and psychological support
  • Enhances your sense of autonomy and control; and ability to act independently
  • Empowers you through increased knowledge and competence
  • Motivates you to follow complex medical instructions and undergo prolonged and time consuming treatment
  • Builds your capacity to make decisions regarding best treatment options
  • Provides the opportunity for individual and personalised care

Psychosocial care and counselling complements the medical and technological IVF care.
